Project Management Professional Study Guide
Preparing for the PMP and want the reasoning behind the questions, not just more of them? You are in the right place. This is the written companion to the practice exams, a complete walk through everything the July 2026 exam covers, so you can learn the ideas before you drill them.
The PMP rewards judgment far more than recall. Almost every one of its 180 questions is a short scenario that offers several answers that all technically work, then asks which a seasoned project manager would choose. A few instincts decide most of them: lead people through facilitation and trust rather than authority, so the credited move usually engages the person directly instead of escalating to the sponsor; choose the delivery approach from the project's own traits, judging whether a situation is predictive, adaptive, or hybrid; and route each decision to whoever owns it, so a change to a baseline goes to the change control board, not to you alone.
The guide follows the exam's own three domains, weighted the way the real test weights them: People at 33 percent, Process at 41, and Business Environment at 26. Each chapter builds the mental model in plain language, then separates the look-alike answers with comparison tables and decision trees, and ends with a cheat sheet. Start at the top, or pick a domain from the list beside this page.
